The Goan cuisine is mainly influenced by Hindu origins and Portuguese colonialism. ‘Ambot’ means spur and ‘tik’ means spicy in the local Goan language. The main ingredients used to prepare Ambottik are dried red chillies, peppercorns and tamarind. Shark and catfish are used customarily in the process. It tastes great with plain steamed rice, which is the main source of calories along with the curry.

Crab Xec Xec is a delicious curry prepared using grounded coconut, roasted spices and coriander added to the crab meat. This delicious Crab Xec Xec curry is served with rice or bread.

Fish curry
The most essential food for the Goan people is fish and rice. Since chillies and turmeric are used in the curry, it is yellowish red in colour. Mackerel is one of the favourites among the famous food of Goa with peppery flavour to it. The steamed rice and fish curry is the traditional Goan dish.

This dish originated from Africa. The chicken is cooked with coriander, lime, chillies and mint. Pan roasted until properly cooked. This dish is spicy and usually served with salad.

Sorpotel is a stew made from pork. The pork is parboiled and finely diced again fried and then cooked with spices and vinegar. The interesting thing about Sorpotel is that it tastes better on the second or the third day after cooking.
